When Ben died in December, 2023, some wonderful friends started a fund that we have since dedicated for youth music scholarships.
In this way, we'll be able to ensure that Ben's passion for teaching music lives on even if he can't.
During the summer of 2024, we found ourselves with a very productive bee hive. Knowing that there was no way we could possibly use all the honey that was being made, we realized that this could be a means to "fund the fund", and Make a Joyful Buzz was born!
Rather than sell our wonderful honey, we're asking folks to donate to the "Ben Pollack Memorial Fund" aka the "Ben Pollack Youth Music Scholarship Memorial Fund", located at JCFSandiego.org. As a gift for your donation, we'll be happy to give you an 8 oz. jar of our "Honey to Keep the Music Flowing".
At this time, we cannot ship the honey outside the San Diego area.
However, if you don't live locally, we would still be very appreciative for any donations made to the fund!
As the fund grows, we will be able to create more scholarships to aid more music students in their musical education as well as
helping organizations that teach music to our young people. With your help, we can keep Ben's spirit and goals alive.
In his short time on the planet, Ben was able to inspire, promote, encourage and challenge his students, as is evidenced from the poem below.
Special thanks to Laurie Romberg for her graphic design skills in making our logo and to Mark Herman, for his beekeeping mentorship.
To stay in rhythm,
Hold on to the bass.
Listen to the winds,
And look to him for pace.
To be a musician,
Is to be a spinner of yarns.
A fairytale is comparable,
To a moving melody’s charms.
There is no such thing as perfection,
(Except for his absolute pitch).
When you are standing at attention,
Do NOT scratch that itch!
Never flinch at your mistakes,
Keep going to not lose place.
Accidents can be improv,
If handled with grace.
Harmonies are the key to happiness,
Both in life and in song.
Be the change you wish to see,
And always sing along.
I think he'd tell us to remember,
Especially now that he's gone,
The band family is forever,
Try to be strong.
